The Wall Street Journal signaleerde in 2008 dat verzamelaars steeds minder vaak delen van hun collectie aan de publieke musea schenken. Ze richten liever een eigen museum op. Dit is de inleiding van de museumspecial in Metropolis M Nr 1-2012.
De PvdA-fractie in de gemeenteraad Eindhoven wil inbreken in het beleid van het Van Abbemuseum, door te eisen dat het museum in de toekomst meer geld zelf gaat verdienen met het eigen tentoonstellingsprogramma. Op dinsdagmiddag 18 oktober wordt erover vergaderd.
