In the exhibition ACT V: POWER ALONE in Witte de With the Turkish artist Canan Senol shows the intriguing video-animation Exemplary. In her work she addresses the role of religious, political and patriarchal foundations that structure everyday life. Ingrid Commandeur interviewed Canan Senol in Istanbul.
He is a rising star that the exhibition circuit can no longer do without. Constant Dullaart, fresh from the Rijksakademie, can always be found showing his work somewhere. He is a critic of the medium, highly active on the Internet, and is an equally talented critic of himself and of his vocation of contemporary visual artist.

At the Society of the Query conference PHD researchers, cultural historians/analysts, new media specialists and artists all shared in the goal of critically assessing Google’s position as an information monopolist and the effect this has on us – Google users.
In the coming months Metropolis M will introduce several of the key note speakers of Now is the Time, the extensive lecture series on the topic of 21st century art and theory. The first is Laura U. Marks, a media theoretician from Vancouver with a pronounced interest in Middle Eastern culture, who wil speak in Amsterdam on October 3rd.

Unlike the unassuming elder generations, many young Indian artists simply claim their place on the international art front, whether the West is ready for them or not. Their art is ‘transnational’ and ‘multimedial’ and is a welcome contribution to the many new practices being developed between established cultures and disciplines throughout the world.
