The Fund, which this year celebrates its 10th Anniversary, enables Tate to acquire works by emerging artists for the national collection from London’s Frieze Art Fair. 86 works by 57 significant international artists have been collected since 2003.

This year the £150,000 made available by the Fund is the highest ever.

Those selecting the works were: guest selectors Mami Kataoka, Chief Curator of Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, and Franklin Sirmans, Chief Curator of Contemporary Art, LACMA joined by Tate curators Ann Gallagher, Head of Collections, British Art; Frances Morris, Head of Collections, International Art; Tanya Barson, Curator, International Art and Clarrie Wallis, Curator, Contemporary British Art.

The Fund is organised by Outset which was founded in 2003 as a philanthropic organisation dedicated to supporting new art. The charity focuses on raising private funding from its supporters and trustees for public museums, galleries and art projects.

Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate said: “In its tenth year, Frieze continues to be a fair in which we can all make discoveries of emerging and re-emerging artists. This year, the purchases range from rediscoveries such as Fukushima and Whitten, to an artist showing in the first gallery from Africa to be present at the Fair and a younger British painter. We are delighted to be celebrating the10th anniversary of the Fund and we are grateful to Outset for their continuing and very valuable support.”

The 2012 Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection is organised and funded by Outset Contemporary Art Fund with support from Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts.

The Whitney Museum is going back to basics, or at least that’s what you might think with their new brand identity redesign that was unveiled today. Created by Amsterdam-based Experimental Jetset, the new logo is an acute replacement to the rectilinear typeface rolled out 13 years ago and designed by Abbott Miller of New York-based Pentagram. DR - 22.05.13

Leuk portret van Jeff Koons: Three decades into a choppy but astonishingly high-profile career, Koons remains something of a boy wonder—a trim, soft-spoken, systematic, and tightly scheduled puppet master who speaks in a reassuring near singsong, his language all patient, bright-eyed affirmation, as if reciting from a well-worn, well-worked-out self-help text . Met speciale aandacht voor Buster Balloon, zijn ballonnen expert. DR - 20.05.13
