Krist Gruijthuijsen director Grazer Kunstverein

24/05/2012

The search for a new artistic director for the Grazer Kunstverein attracted a large amount of applicants from home and abroad. It was a hard task for the jury to draw a pre-selection out of a variety of high-quality applications. Out of the candidates that were interviewed, the new artistic director was selected:

Krist Gruijthuijsen (NL,1980), curator, critic and co-founder of the Kunstverein Amsterdam, will be the new artistic director of the Grazer Kunstverein from 1st September 2012 onwards.

Gruijthuijsen was chosen due to his international experiences, his competence and his knowledge of founding and directing a Kunstverein in order to continue and renew the high-value, internationally oriented focus of the organization.

Under the direction of Søren Grammel, the Grazer Kunstverein has developed itself into a platform for presentation and production of contemporary art in Graz and with a strong international reputation. Daniel Pies, who is currently functioning as interim director, has successfully continued the program until this autumn.

Visiting Frieze New York on Randall’s Island is like being sucked into a black hole. You get on a ferry (or a bus, or a bike, or a taxi), enter a giant, spacious tent, and then time stops. Or it disappears. Or it slips away. Next thing you know, you stumble out dehydrated and drunk off your speakeasy cocktail (more on that tomorrow) and notice the sun starting to sink in the sky. DR - 11.05.13
