Since its inception in 2007 Gemak, a collaboration between the Gemeentemuseum The Hague and the Vrije Academie, tries to fuse contemporary art, politics and debate. This has already resulted in several exhibitions centering on the crises in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the Armenian diaspora. In Reportage: Between Representation and Reality Gemak tries to shed light on art in which the artist takes on the role of eye witness, correspondent and commentator of international conflicts, wars, crises and social upheaval. The exhibition contains works by: Jerome Symons, Rachel Corner, Els Opsomer, Sarah Vanagt and Lidwien van de Ven.
