Eye meets I – Bradley Pitts
Extraordinary fusion of art, science, technology and spiritualityImagine the experience of each of your eyes looking directly at the other. Staring yourself down this way, your brain merges your eyes into one: your own single eye continuously looking back at you.
On October 23rd, the KNAW (Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences) will host ‘Eye meets I’, the first presentation of the EIO: the Ellipsoidal Introspective Optic. The EIO is an optical mirror which simultaneously reflects the gaze of each eye into the other and vice versa. The left eye looks at a reflection of the right and the right eye at the reflection of the left. Former Rijksakademie‐resident Bradley Pitts worked on this project during an art & science guest residency at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In cooperation with physicist Raymond van Ee (Helmholtz Intstitute, University of Utrecht), Bradley Pitts created an instrument that makes this unique experience possible.
