[h1]Gert Jan Kocken – Annunciation & the Temptation of St Anthony, Tacolneston, defacement 1547
Over the last years, the work of Dutch artist Gert Jan Kocken (1971) has drawn a great deal of attention, most notably for his acclaimed project Defacing, that travelled to various international institutions including Museum Serralves in Porto, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and STUK in Leuven. The photographs in this series depict the brutally damaged religious icons and other symbolic monuments that survived iconoclasm. As an edition for Metropolis M Kocken selected the diptych Annunciation & the Temptation of St Anthony, Tacolneston, defacement 1547, 2010, found in an English church in Norfolk, where King Edward VI had given the order to remove ‘catholic idolatrous images’. The diptych is a Giclée print and is presented with two fitted walnut frames (34,5 x 21,7 cm). The work is produced in an edition of 60 + 20 prints, and costs €550,- (incl. 19% VAT) (€462,20 excl. VAT).
