Jacob Ochtervelt’s ‘The Oyster Meal’ returned to rightful owner
Looted art returns. Jacob Ochtervelt’s The Oyster Meal (around 1664-65), a work that has hung in Mansion House in London for nearly three decades, will return to the rightful owner, Dutch family Smidt van Gelder.
Today, 96-year-old daughter, Charlotte Bischoff van Heemskerck, will receive the work from the Lord Mayor of London.
The Dutch Old Master painting was looted by the Nazi’s during the Second World War, in January 1945.
